Saat dulu SMP tahun 2006, saya pertama kali melihat McFly di poster bonus suatu majalah, namun biasa-biasa saja tidak ada yang istimewa, hanya poster. Maklum masih gandrung dengan aliran punk Greenday. Saat ini pun masih belum banyak orang yang tau, terlihat dari konser mereka di Indonesia beberapa waktu yang lalu (di Jakarta dan Surabaya).

Tanpa basa-basi lagi, inilah mereka : McFly. Dengan aliran British-Pop/Rock yang mereka bawakan begitu easy listening dan juga lirik-lirik yang mudah dicerna. Berbekal beberapa album yang telah mereka Room on the 3rd Floor (2004), Wonderland (2005), Motion in Ocean (2006), Radio:Active (2008) dan Above the Noise (2010). Melalui berbagai apresiasi dan prestasi yang mereka raih, Tom Fletcher (Gitar/Vokal), Danny Jones (Gitar/Vokal), Dougie Poynter (Bass/Back Vokal) dan Harry Judd (Drum) cukup kreatif serta aktif dalam berkarya. Tercatat ada beberapa hits yang menjadi kesukaan saya, meskipun semuanya saya suka.

Sebut saja dari album pertama mereka hits Room on the 3rd Floor seperti sama dengan judul albumnya menjadi lantunan pengusir kesunyian, selain itu ada lagu Not Alone dengan liriknya yang begitu dalam. Selang satu tahun dari album perdana tersebut, dalam album ke-2 sebut saja hits I'll Be Ok, Ballad of Paul K, All About You, dan Nothing.

Dengan formasi yang kompak, dua vokalis yaitu Tom & Danny mampu saling mengisi dan berkolaborasi. Itulah uniknya McFly, lagu mereka pun tercatat ada dengan berbagai tema, persahabatan, percintaan, kasih sayang, kehidupan sehari-hari, perasaan sampai tentang motivasi.

Dengarkan saja hits Lonely dari album ke-3 mereka. Kita pasti mempunyai kenangan di dalamnya. Selain itu masih ada lagu pengobar semangat "We are the young", lagu nge-beat Please Please - Star Girl (lagu pertama mereka yang diputar di luar angkasa - awak NASA), lagu seding "Buble Wrap", Home where the heart is sampai lagu cover Don't Stop Me Now (Queen).

Menurut saya, puncak karya mereka ada di album ini (Radio:Active). Tanya mengapa? Jiwa kreativitas dan juga karya mereka mengalami lonjakan serta hasil daripada karya mereka tersebut belum mati setelah Motion in Ocean tadi. Di album ini sebut saja semua lagu ini adalah hits, belum lagi banyak dalam berbagai versi. Selain itu, video klip mereka berbeda dari band-band lain, pokoknya berbeda. Lihat saja sendiri seperti hits The Heart Never Lies (kutipannya ada di awal tulisan ini), lagu Do Ya, Everybody Know, Lies (video klip yang panjang dan memiliki cerita, begitupun dengan Do Ya), super hits "One for the radio", lagu paling kocak : Smile (when you have a problem, not have money, just smile, smile smile ^_^), lagu Falling in love, Corrupted, Point of view (POV), lagu tempo tinggi Going through the motion (1 2 3 4) sampai The last song.

Sedikit berbeda dengan konsep album-album sebelumnya, McFly dalam Above the noise mengeluarkan kreasi yang agak lebih dewasa serta konsep yang matang. Mengusung semi elektronik, bagi yang agak asing mungkin akan terdengar aneh. Namun itulah McFly, yang mewakili daripada Album ini silahkan simak saja hits Party Girl, lagu yang mewakili mereka Shine a light (feat Taio Cruz), I need a woman & That's the truth.
